About the Event
The Basics
The game bears many similarities to the American-favoured sport of baseball, with batsmen taking it in turns to face a ball thrown by the pitcher and, following a successful hit, attempting to move between bases to complete a ‘rounder’.
A rounders pitch includes four bases – a player can stop at any of the first three between plays in order to avoid being run out. If a fielder catches the ball whilst touching the base before the batter reaches it then they are out.
Unlike baseball, a batsman must run regardless of whether they strike the ball, and the pitcher only need throw one legal ball (not too high or wide) to ensure this. A fielding team can also prevent a batsman from scoring by catching their shot before it bounces.
