What is Dodgeball.
The main objective in dodgeball is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by throwing the ball at them. Plays must dodge the ball to remain in the game and the team who manages to eliminate all of their opponent’s first are deemed the winners. The game is over when all of the players on one team are eliminated, resulting in the other team winning the game. If both teams still have members at the end of an allotted amount of time, the winning team will be the one with most players. If this still results in deadlock, overtime can be played.
Why play Dodgeball.
The short bursts of sprinting involved in a game of dodgeball can improve cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure and pulse, improving circulation and burning calories. In this manner, dodgeball can constitute a form of interval training, with players running for brief periods of time. Players running across a court don’t just run, they also have to dodge balls. This can improve agility as players adjust their bodies at a rapid pace. It can also help players improve their balance.
The whole emphasis is for the children to have as much fun as possible in a safe environment while learning and playing Dodgeball. The structure of a typical session is practicing a skill or technique as part of their warm up (max 10 minutes) then playing quick high tempomatches in a tournament style format. The best way for the children to learn is by playing the game under the guidance of our qualified Dodgeball coaches. The children are giving the freedom to play without fear of making mistakes and to express themselves. Coaching is kept to a minimum, and is done in a multitude of different ways to keep the tempo of the session high and to meet the individual needs of each child.
